Studio

2011-studio-Panorama-5-analog-1-cs-1-900h-tspBenni built his sound studio to accommodate all aspects of a professional working environment; but what started out as a spare living room, was soon turned into an acoustically treated high tech studio, blurring not only the boundaries between art and science, but also the boundaries between bedroom, living room and studio. Fully specced with the latest virtual and digital technology, while simultaneously being an audio museum, jam-packed with yesterdays colourful sounding hardware.

Benni’s earliest recording endeavours started as a child, while discovering electric guitars and exploring his grandfathers world war 2 valve radios and tape machines. He made his first recordings on tape, Minidisc and later on an AKAI S1000d 4 track MO disc recorder, which was superseded by a Fostex R8 reel tape machine, which was later upgraded to 3 cascaded ADAT machines with a BRC remote and a topaz 24 track mixing desk; while finally getting hands on Pro Tools and other DAW’s since 1999.

Analog recording found its origin in the realm of yesterdays technology, and though today’s infinite flexibility of the digital virtual domain is at the centre of Benni’s workflow, Benni has always maintained his sonic aesthetic for smooth transients with warmth, punch and snap. In his quest for analog sound, Benni has established a considerable collection of reel-to-reel tape machines and 1950s valve circuits which are regularly incorporated into his mixing and mastering, yet without compromising digital accuracy or sonic transparency.

Benni’s steadily expanding equipment assembly has matured for over a decade and can competently equal or exceed the majority of todays project studios. The following list is intended as a testimony of Benni’s uncompromising attitude towards sound recording and production.
